Super Pargio Kart is a complete ROM hack by ScoutB of the classic Nintendo game Super Mario Kart for the SNES which completely reskins the game to reflect the qualities of European based SMK community.
Created in 1992 for the SNES by Nintendo, Super Mario Kart is a kart racing game and the first in a long line of Mario Kart games to come following Super Mario Kart‘s groundbreaking success. It is credited for creating the “kart racing” subgenre spawning an influx of similar games such as Sega‘s Sonic Drift, Ubisoft‘s Street Racer, and Atari‘s Atari Karts, to name a few. Super Mario Kart changed the rules of driving games and provided the world with one of the most addictive multiplayer experiences ever.

Super Pargio Kart was specifically made to include the likenesses and personal jokes of a largely France based SMK community. The hack remains largely similar to the game it was created from, proving many similarities in tracks and types shortcuts, etc., the creator wanted to provide a personalized experience for their community to enjoy together.
Players will of course notice the similarities in the actual karters as they have simply had their sprites swapped. The layout of the karter select screen is the same as the original game so players can be sure that they as selecting the player style that they want. Like many other hacks, the section of the screen showing the individual karter’s driving style has been removed.
As far as hack go, this one of pretty inoffensive and attempts to remain close to the base game in order to provide an experience that the community could enjoy together and would feel familiar to them all.

The title screen of this hack is a altered version of the original game’s title screen as presented below.
Graphics
Most of the graphics in this hack have been altered from what was provided by the original game. Players will find that all karters have been replaced with persona of other people and that all the tracks, while resembling the ones from SMK, have been greatly altered. In most cases, the background of levels have been heavily altered while the tilesets used are quite familiar.
Gameplay
Super Pargio Kart plays very similar to the original game, offering many familiar challenges and obstacles that players faced in SMK. The focus here was less about offering an altered gameplay experience but the tracks are significantly harder as befitting players that would consider themselves SMK pros. Notably, the AI seems to be a bit more aggressive than the base game.

No changes to the original game’s audio was made for this hack.

Conclusion
So is this game worth a try? Super Pargio Kart is mostly a visual alteration to SMK, offering familiar gameplay with different tracks. These tracks are considerably harder than the base game, providing players with a much greater challenge. That said, the familiarity in the tracks sets the game to sit among SMK as something of an extension of the original game play or something like a Hard Mode.
