DKC2: The Lost Levels

The Lost Levels is a ROM hack created by LucasRangel for Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest which focuses on level design and completely altering the game’s original levels.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy’s Kong Quest, released in 1995, is the second of Rare‘s side-scrolling platformers to come to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System and is noted for selling so well that retailed had troubles handling the overwhelming demand for the title. This critically acclaimed title improved from its predecessor in every way, alleviating any grievances previously mentioned by critics in regards to the first game’s lack of complexity; overall, it was hailed for having a superior experience due to its detail, smooth animations, and varying color palette.

Kremcoin’s are hidden in various nooks and crannies and it may take new players a couple playthrough in order to find them all leading to the unlocking of all hidden levels in this hack.

This hack presents itself largely within the same difficulty curve as the base game but players have noted that after the first two levels that the game seems to get significantly more difficult. I will say that ever a sudden increase, the hack seems to level out and keep to a more steady, almost flat, difficulty from there.
