Kremling’s Revenge Remodel is a ROM hack of Donkey Kong Country by L_Sky which makes a number of alterations to the original game’s levels for a fresh spin on a classic title.
It is reasonable to consider Donkey Kong Country to be Rare’s chefs d’oeuvre as it is most certainly the game that gained them recognition as one of the video game industry’s leading developers at the time. Released in 1994 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, this pre-rendered 3D graphic platformer reestablished the Donkey Kong franchise for Nintendo. While initially critically acclaimed for its innovative graphics and addictive gameplay, amongst other things, critics have come to regard the game as somewhat overrated stating that it’s flashy graphics and straightforward gameplay ring shallow in comparison to the standards set by other Nintendo titles of the time.

Kremling’s Revenge Remodel is largely based on another hack created by Preposterify which introduced a slew of changes to the levels of the game and created a much more difficult experience. It, like this hack, makes use of Simion32’s DKC Resource Editor.
As a change from the original hack, L_Sky took into account grievances in regards to the unusual difficulty curve namely in the latter few levels of Preposterify‘s hack. It was noted for frequently requiring frame-perfect jumps from the players which made the game dependent on save states. While this was a design choice by the creator it somewhat detracts from what is an otherwise well designed and innovative hack.
Kremling’s Revenge Remodel is a fair and competent hack that brings a little more variety and challenge to the base game. A fair amount of new bonuses levels have been added to each level, providing the player with plenty of opportunities to gain extra lives and also serves as a bit of adventure and exploration to an otherwise pretty straightforward game.
